Poverty is a sad reality and one we need to understand if we hope to make an impact in reducing the numbers. Jim Potter, a law enforcement officer with nearly 30 years of experience, will provide knowledge and insight about the state of poverty in Kansas. Potter, a certified trainer of the Ruby Payne curriculum, will also guide us through the social norms of different classes. You’ll learn more about the different “languages” spoken in the homes of the poor, middle class, and wealthy and be challenged to think differently about the way they view the decisions of those who come from different social classes.
Recommended reading either before or after this session is Ruby Payne’s book A Framework for Understanding Poverty.
